Customs officers from Operation Exodus get their first look at the VAX 11/782 computer equipment after its
arrival in the United States. The first-hand inspection
confirmed that the computer was highly advanced and its loss would havejeopardized our national security.
Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Secretary
of the Treasury Donald T. Regan conduct a joint news conference while displaying much of the computer
equipment seized by the West Germans on behalf of U S. Customs. Both Cabinet officers praised the work
of Operation Exodus and thanked the German author ities for their part in the seizure.
